THE CURTAIN HOUSE
This design of a single person student house explores the relationship between a laneway house and the existing primary unit of its host lot. Inspired by soft architecture, the laneway house maximizes the tree that separates the two houses by using its shade as a roof for its patio, while also mimicking the height of the heritage tree.
The design is made up of two circular floor plates stacked on top of each other, each one slightly shifted away from the center. The shared portion of the venn-diagram like structure makes up the interior of the building, a primarily glass enclosure that uses a curtain for added privacy. The outside portions (patio and balcony) create public spaces intended for outdoor activities and connection with the tenants of the main house.
